I'm going to look at a 800 series tractor with full hydraulic Ford loader, power steering, 3pth, 5 speed, pto, and new (in the box) 5' bush hog. Good tires nice sheet metal . Good runner etc. He wants $4500.00. What do you think? Any problems to be aware of on this model?

I paid 4500 for my 861 2 years ago with no extra equip. I would say it was in very good cond. Would love to have a loader. Mine has proven to be a damn good machine.

Let's see...that sounds like an 861. Damn good tractor.

If you don't want it, I do, and know several folks that would want if I didn't. That would be a very good price for the tractor alone around here. (North Georgia). Bush-hog would be icing.

Is it gas or diesel? I have never owned a diesel of this vintage, but I have heard the gas burners are better.

I know a fellow who sold a 5 speed tranny alone for $1500.

Check out the site below for MUCH more info.

I paid $2500 for an 800 last summer. Fairly original, old Wagner pipe frame loader (not installed), no bush hog, no p/s, 3pt hitch, non-live pto, 5 speed. Works good, needs lots of cosmetic help. You might check out the tractor registry (left column), it tells you what others have paid and what extras they got for the price.

I gave $5K for an 861 with 6' HD bushhog and a new clutch back in June and didn't feel I got hurt. Price depends on where you are and availability. 800 series are very scarce around here and in demand. There are a couple of 961's sitting at local dealers that are priced in the $4500 range for just the tractor.

An 800 series in the best original shape I have ever seen sold at the Hudson Old Engine Club auction for somewhere in the low 5's.( I think) It had a used bushhog but no loader. The gentleman who bought it had no idea what it was, just he needed a tractor with a bushhog and this one looked real nice. He actually got his money's worth, but I would have liked to see it go a bit lower so I coulda bought it. Instead I bought a basket case 800 somewhere else for a LOT less. Probably will have 3000 in it when it's all painted up and shiny again. Wouldn't take less than 4000 for it either.Hope this helps some. It should be easy to find out what the Hog is worth new. Subtract that and then dicker on the tractor part of the price!

See if he'll go to somewhere in neighborhood of 4000-4200.00. Age related problems are what you'll run into from time to time, but parts are relatively easy to come by.
