I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE LIFT ON MY "39" 9N.
FIRST I FOUND WATER IN THE HYDRAULICS, THEN THE PUMP WAS
WORE OUT ALTHOUGH THE LIFT STILL WORKED ONLY SLOW.
I PURCHASED A PUMP REBUILD KIT FROM MY LOCAL FORD TRACTOR SUPPLY.
DID THAT AND WORKED OK. NOW AFTER SEVERAL TIMES BACK AT THE TRACTOR
PLACE IT STILLS DOES NOT LIFT RIGHT, THE LAST TIME WAS LAST WEEK AND
THEY SAID A SMALL METAL SHAVING WAS ON ONE OF THE PUMP SHAFTS CAUSING IT TO NOT
LIFT RIGHT??? ANY HELP ON SOLVING THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE A GREAT HELP.

Dear friend,
I have a 2N 1947 witch had same hydraulic system.
In any case you have to check:
Lift cylinder: wearing?
Valve: is the valve in a good shape.
Relief valve.
And ckeck the correct position of the lever if it is not well adjust or you never lift or you lift all time
In any case the best ways is look on 9n or te20 manual serice
Dan

I am assuming the three point hitch is what is not lifting properly, also assuming the offending shaving has been removed from the pump shaft. A " does not lift right problem" is difficult to diagnose via an internet connection. The three point lift is undoubtedly the most complex system on your tractor and proper operation is dependent on
1. Not having internal leakage from lift cylinder piston-pump releif valve-piping-etc.
2. Internal lift linkage free of excessive wear-reasonably rust free-no broken springs or bent and binding components. I woulld suggest following the troubleshooting steps in a 9N repair manual.
It could possibly be another small shaving lodged in the relief valve on the rear of the pump.
