I neglected to upload the wiring schematic.

So, I'm wondering just what the warning tells you ? Does it light up when genny is working ok or does it light up if its not ? I may install one on my 640 . What type of light do you use & where can I get one ? Thanks & God bless

Any small dash light bulb is fine (some use trailer side marker lamps). Via the ignition switch the bulb is tied across the ARM to BATT contacts in the regulator, so that before generator output is high enough to close contacts, the bulb lights, but as rpm increases & gen output increases, the VR's cut out contacts close , thus shorting across the bulb & it has no voltage or current to light it. Dark is good.
 
lit means current is flowing from the bat to the gen ( discharge).. unlit means no current flow. this is usually caused by same potential on either side of lamp. IE.. gen charging battery..

so works like the idiot lampo in a vehicle.. lit= discharge unlit.. probably ok.. :)

Oh, didn"t Ford have their own style lite? I faintly remember a light like this on my Dads one Ford . It was the size of a penny , black ring with red light in center . I"m an original parts guy , even tho I can"t afford to be . I guess that"s rubbed off my Dad . He would never install anything non original Ford parts .I wonder if Dennis Carpenter makes something ? I"ll have to dig out his parts books . Thanks & God bless
 
sure.. you can use the oem charge indicator lamp to excite a 3 wire.

I have done it on some of my fords.

if the lamp is gone but the lense there.. just get a low wattage bulb for it.. easy to retrofit..

if your lense is gone and you go for an oem.. it's liekly spendy.. but if the lense is there.. you can cram just about anu low wattage bulb up in there with a lil ingenuity to hold it in.
