I hate the fuel shut offs on the 801s

Have one in to fix a fuel leak problem. Got a new shut off valve but its made in the country of stripped out where the fuel line hooks up not always right parts and it. Call the place that I got it from and they said they will send me a new one. But I fixed the old one so it did not leak but some how when I put it back on the o-ring jumped off so I had to pull it back off and put that on. Boy they sure could have given a person more room to work between the valve cover and the bottom of the tank what a pain in the back sides. I'll have to go back out and recheck it to make sure its not leaking again. Just complaining a bit

old,

That's why I opted to add an inline shut off on my 971, along with the fact the factory shut off was broken, but not leaking. The photo was early on, before I got the leak stopped. I did have to go back and add a heat shield to keep it from getting air bubbles in the gas, but it's been working great now and is convenient enough that I shut it off each time I'm finished with it.

I'm sure this isn't the perfect solution, but from what I read, changing those factory shut-offs can be a real PITA and the new ones are as you indicated, not well built and likely to leak in a few years anyway. I know I'm not sharing anything you havn't seen as you've been around them a long time, but just thought I would share what I chose to do.

On my 850 i added an inline shutoff for that reason.. and on that 951 I got from AWHTX, I kept using the nice shutoff he installe don it.. deffinately not enough room to work under that tank.

uch easier and more room if the muffler isn't there

Not to steal the thread, but is on topic.

Has anyone heard of the "electric fuel shut offs"? I've seen them mentioned a few times and was wondering if they are a viable option.

Regardless of how many in-line shut offs you install, if the one on the bottom of the tank is leaking you still have to take it off and fix it. There"s too much danger of a fire if you allow that valve to leak.
An ingenious fellow could rig up a metal plate with a 90* elbow installed in it to replace the original valve and eliminate the problem of the leaking o-ring on the shut off screw. You"d have to install a shut off somewhere down stream.
