PTO lever Housing broken.

The tractor is a 1953 TO-30. What would cause this PTO Shift lever housing to break the way it did? With the lever off of the machine I can shift it in and out of gear with a bar and everything seems to work like it should. Am I missing something here???

Yes. I think I can get one locally but if not I will keep you in mind. I'm just wondering if something else is wrong internally that broke it, or did my old pal Pete run a stick ,or old fencepost, or something similar up though the side of the foot rest that snaped it while topping the meadow by his house and did not notice. I've been around these tractors for years but never seen one break like this before? I noticed that he likes to back up with the mower most of the time. Dandy Dave!

I will take a guess that Pete stuck the topper on top of an ant hill and killed the engine. Can't shift it into neutral so if he disengages the PTO he can shift to neutral. Pulled a little harder than he should have.

I have been repairing these tractors for over 50 years and I have never seen one do that before. I wouldn't think that it is something internal unless the sliding gear is worn and it had a heavy load that forced it out of drive, but it would usually show up in other ways. I think he has had something trapped in it like you suggest. have a good look around on the Lever to see if there is paint newly missing. I wouldn't loan him the tractor anymore, your pocket can't afford it...All you can do is fit another Lever and Plate and try it for your self..John(UK)[email protected],

I was able to get a replacement lever and housing today. Not to worry, it is Pirate Pete's tractor, so he gets to foot the parts bill. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for all the replies. Dandy Dave!
