Ferguson continental z120

Hello again!!

Having been busy with family, my fergie has had to take a backseat. However, I'm hoping that things will now move on quickly!

I have taken the head off my continental z120 engined te20, as there was 2 valves stuck open after it had been sat for so long. I'm happy with the condition of the bores and pistons etc so I am ready to re-assemble it.

Does anyone know the torques for the head bolts once I've re-fitted the head? I also noticed that some of the bolts had washers on them and others didn't. Is there a reason for this?

I would also like to know what the electrical components on it would be, distributor etc. The rotor arm looks like a lucas, so would it be lucas components I'd need?

I look forward to hearing from you regarding my tractor and I will post pics of my progress soon.

Thanks once again.

If it has a Z120 engine and lucas electrics than you most likely have a TE-20. Final torque is 70-75 ft lbs and you start in the center and work outward. This is usually done in three steps with the third step being the 70-75 ft lb torque. I alsways retorgue after ruunning the engine for awhile and bringing it to operating temperature.

The starter and generaor are LUcas but the Ferguson shop manual does not give a Lucas part number for them. The voltage regulator is also Lucas model RF-97. The Lucas distributor is Model D-3A4.

Thanks for your help Jerry, Its much appreciated.

Do you happen to know the tolerances of the points settings?

I"m sure I"ve seen it on the forum here somewhere before. I"m converting the tractor from a 6 volt to a 12 volt system, the condensor, points distributor, rotor arm etc would be the same on a 12volt and 6 volt system?

Thanks for your help once again,

John Morgan
