I recived my oil filter,O ring for cover and some paper ring.

1. the filter had a pull handle and in some pictures it goes at the top, can i take it off seem like it would lessen the seal?
2. the paper ring that came with the filter is too big for the ends of the filter so where should it go?
the filter that i removed did not have a paper ring or handle?

The handle would go facing down so it can easily be
removed as far as the paper gasket i don't no maybe
for a different model

Handle goes toward the opening so you can remove it easier next time. Slide other end in first so handle shows. These kits come with gaskets for different tractors and you can throw away the one that doesn't fit.

someone posted a parts dia. that showed what looke like a metal can covering the screen that covers the filter, does this can come out with out removing the belly pan?the reason i ask the parts dia. showed a spring above the can and when i droped the filter and screen a spring came out that is not shown in the parts dia.

The spring is there to press down on the pan, screen and then the filter. All the open ends face down. There's a little hole in the down pipe that must be free to oil flow. Getting the pan on(which comes last) is the trick.

the metal can stays in the crankcase, it can only be removed by dropping the oil pan. That spring that came out actually is suppose to be placed on the oil drop tube between the metal can and the bottom of the center bearing. The spring pushes down on the can, which pushes down on the screen filter, which pushes down on the oil filter. when you remove the cover plate from the oil pan to change the filter, the filter should come out first, then the screen. This filter is confusing because the oil flow is from inside to outside the filter. Look at the filter and the screen, you will notice the screen is taller than the can is deep, the can rides off the bottom of the oil pan.
When I first pulled the filter on my TO, I couldn't even see the filter, or get it out. Turns out the prev. owner had dropped the entire pan, installed the can upside down on the bottom, then the strainer and filter. A simple filter change turned into dropping the oil pan to figure out what was going-on in there.
