Problem with 12v conversion and throttle/governor

I bought a 12v conversion kit for my TO30 and put the alternator on yesterday. The picture below is with the throttle at idle. The governor lever hits the top bracket when I move the throttle. Not sure if the throttle rod needs to be shortened or what? If so I guess the governor will have to be readjusted? Any ideas or help is appreciated, I'm learning about this stuff as I go. Thanks

I'll check, but I'm afraid I would have to cut all the way through the bracket for the lever to be able to move as far as it was before.

Thanks guys, hopefully that will work then. My tractor is several miles away and I won't be able to get back to it for several days.

Just wondering is the alt. tension bar where it's
mounted to water pump dose it have the half moon cut
out so you can loosen the bolt and slide it off? If
so spin it upside down it might give you enough room
that the governor linkage will miss, just a thought.

The last thing I would do is hack at the original piece. You would be better off turning your new bracket around, or upside down, or just look for a different bracket off another engine in a car junkyard or someone's collection of odd junk. The factory linkage is a very delicate thing to get the engine to run right at all speeds, so try everything possible to work around it. Remember, that was there doing its job 50 years before your new (wrong?) one came out of the box...

I had the same problem, I just reshaped the bracket with a couple of bends.
Made it go out towards the radiator about 3/4 of an inch then back in line with the alternator. That made it go around the linkage with out touching it.

I tried turning the bracket upside down, but it won't work that way, it hits the alternator fan. This kit is made for the To30, I didn't buy it from this website but it looks just like the one sold here. Doesn't seem right for this not to work right out of the box since it's made for this specific tractor, but looks like other people have had the same issue.

I would contact the vendor and let them know that it doesn't work properly. Perhaps someone needs to go back to the drawing board.

Take that tensioner bracket off and give it a good bend where the governor rod is hitting it.

Just heat it red hot while in a vice and it will be easy to bend.

Well, tossed the new bracket and just used the old one. But now I've noticed the alt pulley isn't quite inline with the other two. No adjustment in the bottom bracket. I think I would've been better off making my own brackets than buying this kit. It won't be much trouble to make it work, but it kind of defeats the purpose of buying a kit.

are you sure you mounted the first bracket to the right bolt? i used a chrome universal alternator bracket from the auto parts store and the bolt i used was way below where you mounted yours.

hmm...that's a possibility. I just put the new bracket on the same bolt (stud) that the old one was on. In my picture it looks like the bracket is bolted on higher than it is, because there is a bend in the bracket, you just can't see that from the angle. I think if I put it on the next lower stud that is under the water pump shaft, the bracket would hit the fan on the alternator. But I'll try it and see, right now I've got it rigged up with the old bracket, and it seems fine.
