Just picked up a dirt scoop today, and I'm wondering, do I use my stabilizer bars with it? Or let is float to the limits of the check chains?

TO-35 Ferguson tractor and Ford dirt scoop

if i am pulling forward i normally do not use the stabilizer bars.

but if i am having to back into the dirt pile, i do use the stabilizers as it is hard on the lift arms and chains.

It is wiser to use the Stabiliser bars, this prevents the scoop swinging and breaking the check chains, which will almost certainly happen if you start to use the scoop properly and try to move earth quickly. The Stabiliser bars were made to prevent this problem of swinging side to side, so you should use them and then you won't break anything. If you don't use them and you break a chain, the scoop could swing into the wheel and tyre and cause you problems...John
