Help in identifying my Harry Ferguson Tractor

Hi,

I am trying to figure out if the Harry Ferguson tractor I have a rare model or just a run of the mill model. The serial number TO-40687. I believe it to be eitther a TO-40 or possibly a F-40. I am interested in things like the model name, the year it was made, numbers made that year, etc. My attempts at researching this info on the net have left me confused, and I am hoping someone can help. I have many pictures of this tractor, but my account is to new here to allow me to post them. Please send me a private message and I can forward you a link to the picures.

This tractor has always been housed in a barn or garage and indeed I found it in an old barn jere in Ohio where it was not seeing much use. I believe it is pretty much original except that it has been converted to 12 volts and sports a new alternator which I put on since I have owned the tractor. And of course the front tires have been replaced with automotive tires. At first I was wondering how the automotive tires would work out, but after using it for a few years towing a small trailer around the grounds to pick up sticks and doing some mowing, I find I love the automotive tires as they act like turn fires and do not dig in like normal narrow tractor tires.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Welcome to a great site!

<---------- See left column:

"Research & Info" - "Serial Numbers" - "Ferguson" - "TO20"

It appears you have a 1951 Ferguson TO20 tractor, last year they were built. Should have a Continental Z120 engine.

F-40 serial numbers started 400001 - six digits, not five.

Bob,

thanks, I was confused because I thought the serial number of TO-40697 meant that iw as a TO-40, I see now where I was incorrect

thanks for pointing to the place you found it too

I think I am going to sell it, and wanted to know a bit more about it before I offered it up

Joe,

Welcome to the world of Ferguson. You have a 1951 Ferguson TO-20. There were 60,000 of these tractors built all for the US market. There are many in the Ohio area.

Visit FergusonTractors.org for the Ferguson national club. There is good info on that site. The site is being rebuilt and alot is still missing though.

This site is the best for technical help, questions and banter.

There is also a super Ferguson/Massey-Harris club we have here in our home state, the Massey-Harris-Ferguson Club of Ohio. Most members are located in the half arc North of I-70 around Columbus. Between I-77, turnpike and I-75.

So where in Central Ohio are you? Centerville, Newark, Deleware or Maryville/London area?

e-mail me if you"d like to discuss the clubs, local shows, or get more info on your Ferguson.

Jeff (I"m down on the east side of Cincinnati far enough out that they still plant beans/corn across the street from me.)
TE20Ferguson at AOL dot COM - or use send e-mail link on the classic view side.
