Engine shop?

I am waiting on engine host, once I get that, I will remove the crank shaft and take it to have it service locally. What is the key word to look up in the phone book to find a company that service engine block, heads, and crank shaft? I know it is a silly question, but I never done that before.

Also, do I really need to take the heads and engine block in for service? I know I have to get service done on the crank shaft, but the engine block will get new sleeve.

auto or engine Machine shop is the place you want to go.
I would take them the block and crank and let them put it together so they can correct any
tolerance issues.well worth the money they charge.and if you can aford it i d let them assy. the hole short block.

Do you have any friends that does this type of thing? Ask them where they take their blocks and heads to get cleaned up. The shop will check the head to see if it needs to be milled, and a good shop has the capabilities of cleaning the block. I might caution you most shops that clean the blocks, the chemicals in the cleaner will eat the engine serial number tag off. So if you want to keep the tag it would be wise to take it off your self as I have seen one shop take the tag off but it couldn't be put back on. Keep the forum updated as to the progress.

Right now, I don't know any one who does what I am learning to do. Now that I know the name to search for, I will find one.

I will not let them work on the block, just the crank shaft. What about the heads? The seats for the valve.

You can just ask in the auto parts/ farm equipment stores- tsc, napa etc, someone will know the good and bad machine shops, and bring them the camshaft- actually, everything- in boxes and crates. A good machinist will look at the parts like a detective, what is wrong, what is good, what went wrong in the past. The block is very important to have checked- you own an engine famous for microscopic cracks that ruin the whole project. After they soak it in acid a few days, they look at it with a wash of phosporis penetrant, and a black light will notice any cracks. Bring the head too- bad valves AND warping, cracks etc, can't be forgotten- you are so far into the project, you can't be penny wise or neglect anything now- been there, done that. Now mine is so powerful, I know why the old timers loved these tractors so much. good luck!

In our phone book {Yellow Pages} these type of machine shops are listed under Automobile Machine Shop Services.

There is a lot more to engine rebuilding than grinding the crankshaft. It is best to get counsel from a person with experience. You may need to have the rods reconditioned or the top of the block may be warped or cracked. The head can be a whole chapter by itself.
