Got new oil filter.

I got a new filter for my to20, it came with three gaskets. I have no idea how it goes on because my tractor came with no oil filter and the metal bowl was installed upside down. I got a diagram from Jeff, but it does not really tell me where the three gaskets goes.

As you see the gaskets are different sizes...

The cartridge is used in other different engines with different canister. You need only one gasket which will fit on your filter canister the others are unnecessary for you.

He says a TO 20 so I do not think he has a canister but is it possible one is large enough to fit in the big cover for the bottom of the oil pan?

I just ordered and changed the oil filter on my TO20 for the first time. It came with only one gasket that fit over the outside diameter of the filter and is about 3/16 wide. I could not figure out where it went and left it off. I don't have any leaks but am wondering if I should have put it on and where. Anyone know if it is needed or if it is for another application?

As other guys have pointed out the filter is used in other app's, so you probably got gaskets for every posible application. The filter itself needs no gaskets, it is contained within the oil pan, the oil flow direction is from the down tube through the filter, and out into the crankcase. Gaskets really do no good. The filter should have a fairly tight fit around the top when you slide it onto the downtube. I don't recall there being any gaskets on the filter itself in the service manual. The bottom access plate that covers the hole in the oil pan DOES need a good O-ring to seal it right. Get those from a MF dealer. It's possibe one of the gaskets you got is for that, but my experience has been the O-ring does not come with the filter. I've seen thick and thin rubber O-rings for the bottom cover. I prefer the thick ones myself. The cover plate does not necessarily tighten-up square and even around the circumference, the thicker O-ring gives you a little more compression before one side of the plate bottoms out on the oil pan. You also do not need silicone or gasketmaker goop when installing the bottom plate, assuming you have a good straight pan, and cover plate, just a good O-ring, and clean mating surfaces on the pan and plate.
The original service manual called for felt washers for the small holes on top of the inner cover-can and the mesh strainer. I don't know anyone selling those, you can make yourself. I think most people just skip them. I don't think they contribute that much value
