Stabilizer Bars

I purchased new lift arms and stabilizer bars for my TO 30. The only way I could get them to work was to move one side of the stabilizer bar attachment point toward the front of the tractor one hole. Nothing seems to be bent or out of allignment. Does any one have any suggestions? Is this normal?

Good thing you had the adjustible bracket, then hun...

The issue you found is that the TO-20/TO-30 stabilizer bars are shorter than the TO-35 and later bars. You got the later, longer style.

This is because the TO-35 lift arms are slightly longer.

This is no big deal if as you have the adjustible stabilizer arm brackets. Just put the pin in the right hole and go.
Unless you have different length stab. arms and you will be interchanging them, don't worry about it.

doc.
my understanding of the stablizer pin, lower arm pin relationship is this,

the two pins must be in direct alignment.

if you have a piece of factory ferguson equipment, plow, disk, etc: it should have the correct equipment cross bar spacing for the lower arm ,

hook up the equipment then align your stablizer pins by loosing the fenders, (stablizer brackets should have slot holes so they can be moved back/forth until you get the proper aligment.

be sure you bought the correct length stablizer bars. I believe the holes should line up with the holes in your lower arms. might check that before you try moving the stablizer brackets, that can be a job, if they have not been freed up in a while.

Let us know how this project comes out!!!

If I remember correctly the brackets were made for the left side or the right side. Did you put them on the wrong side? What I am referring to was "original brackets" I can see where after market brackets could be made for either or, and with adjustable holes it makes it easier.

Thanks guys.
The issue is that I'm not using the same hole on each side. I'll have to look tonight...Didn't realize that the bracket was slotted. I had someone do some work on the tractor a couple of years ago and they might have loosen them and moved one side.

Richard,
I think the brackets are original. The tractor has been in the family for 50 plus years. No family member has taken an interest in fixing the tractor other than homemade parts and fixes. I'm trying to repair the things correctly as I can and have the time and money.

Jeff and all,

The stabilizer bars are the same for the 20/30 and 35 tractors. Part number is 181778M1 and the brackets mounted under the fenders are the same being 181775R and 181776L and they are not slotted at least mine are not and they are original. If you don't line up the pins as Fred says in previous post you will have trouble getting the bar mounted. Ithink your new parts may not be for this tractor if as you say the brackets are original and never moved.

Just an update...The brackets on my TO 30 are slotted. I will try to lossen the bolts and slide the one that appears to have moved back to the correct position. Can't figure out how it moved? The only thing I can think of is I used a rear dirt scoop last summer to move 4 loads of fill dirt. Maybe I worked it to hard and moved the one bracket back about 1/2 inch.
Thanks for all your help!
