Getting closer...TO-35

...this is a "carport" rattle-can restoration that is going to be redone once I have a shop built (and after a few years of use, I think). Still need to wire in the front lights, repaint the front badge, and, most glaring, put the opening part of the hood back on!

It's a '55 Deluxe, serial #166840, I think. Looks way better in photos than in person--I ran out of time! That, and a winter in the damp has given everything a nice "seasoned" look associated with ships at sea.

Green- I believe what you are saying is what I have read as a 15 foot paint job, looks good at 15 ft. away. I wish my TO 30 looked as good as yours does. Maybe some day. Richard

Looks real good, all the way down to the rubber!! Did you order the paint cans from a auto paint supplier, or use a certain store bought color... It looks Great !!! Good Job !!

I don"t care what you painted it with, that"s a darn good looking "35! Looks like it just rolled off the factory floor!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Here's the other side:

I used automotive enamel in a spray can from Tower Paints (look on the web at towerpaint.com, they were relatively inexpensive and had good customer service). The codes I used were from the Ferguson Enthusiast's (FENA) color chart.

I probably used 2 dozen cans of green and the same number of gray. The paint isn't the easiest stuff in the world to work with, I'm sure it's much happier coming out of a professional spray gun.

My biggest error (aside from lack of prep time on the hood and the fact I haven't done any wet sanding, so it's pretty much orange-peel all the way) was in using cheap hardware store primer. If I could easily source spray-can epoxy primer (assuming you can spray it without killing yourself), I would do that.

In the end, I mostly used "rust killing" red primer, despite my de-rusting most pieces. That said, I'm already getting some rust staining on the older wheel. Prep is 90% of the paint job and I just didn't have the time or the environment to do the job justice. I'm going to have to split the tractor in the next few years to deal with some hydraulic/seal issues, so I'll do a better job then!

next time you are derusting use PENETROL and you will stop the rust and it makes a excellent primer for oil based paints.
