Spin on oil filter cartridge.

Doc.

No ... and perhaps yes. I've been looking, not over enthusiastically, for a number of years to find a spin on type oil filter mod specifically for the TEA20, without luck. The Vanguard and Triumph engines has the same cartridge oil filter as 85 mm Standard engine, but I can't find an "off the shelf" mod kit for them either.

However, when the Standard/Triumph engine was installed in the Morgan Plus 4, the good news is it was possible to get a mod kit in the UK for a spin on oil filter and oil cooler to fit that engine. Bad news is I can not locate the supplier or source, probably long since out of business.

Let me know if you do any better. John (UK) may also know if kits are available.

No Kits that I have seen yet, only wish there was. If you find one, please let me know. BareCo would have one if there was one available in Australia I would have thought...John

It can't be that difficult! :x

How many different pumps and filters are there for the TEA20 etc.

Mine like most sits on an angle at the side of the engine. It has a single long bolt through the pump head which screws into the filter cup base. There is no spring.

Others I see seem to have a bolt and nut end arrangement all the way through the cup and an internal spring.

Others still have a vertical filter.

And then there is the TO series internal filter/pump.

It can't be too hard to machine up the pump head where it joins the filter cup. Perhaps replace the long internal bolt with a short hollowed out item that will screw into a spin on filter.

I think the early 80 mm engines had a vertical, rather than inclined filter.

Not sure what you mean by that as there is a spring under the filter element.

No doubt one could modify the filter base to take a spin on, or remotely mount the filter, but it would be beyond my limited capabilities. I've heard of a dead TEA20 available free at Quilpie - if I go out and get it you're welcome to the oil filter housing to play with. There is also another on the Warrego Highway out towards Gatton, that oil filter housing may be available for a reasonable sum.

Higher up my list of priorities is finding a spin on oil filter kit and remote oil cooler for my E Type / XKE Jag. I think the Jag 420 sedan had one that will bolt straight on to the XK 4.2 liter engine in my E Type.

If it IS the same mount as the car engines, have you guys tried Moss Motors out of California? They not only supply most all the original type bits, but a lot of aftermarket parts and mods as well. I know they have spin-on adapters for both brands of oil systems installed on MGs. They ought to certainly have one for the E-type and should have for Triumphs and Austins.

There you go [b:68df19e13c]Doc[/b:68df19e13c]!

[b:68df19e13c]Moss Motors, California[/b:68df19e13c], and they list a spin on oil filter for the Triumph TR2 - TR4A. And it looks very inexpensive!

If memory serves me correctly - and it's been 40 years since I owned a Triumph TR3A - it has the same oil filter as a TEA20. You should make your own inquiries to confirm!

Thanks TexMax!

Most of the vintage tractor engine oil filters were bypass filters and the filter element was a lot more restrictive than the full flow filter that is most common with the spin on filters. Filter makers do make a spin on bypass filter (FL-50 in Fram) but most are not made for bypass.

I did some googling including Moss motors and it doesn't look too hard. There is a conversion kit for the Tecalemit brand oil pump body.

It's a matter of knowing which Tecalemit filter body will interchange with the Fergy Tecalemit to allow the spin on conversion.

So which other Tecalemit brand pump bodies are there that will fit?

Just got my new issue of Moss Motoring Magazine. Was reminded on page 4 by an ad that there is an outfit in Dallas that sells parts for "Uncommon British Marques that Moss doesn't service". If you got as far as talking to the techs at Moss, they probably already mentioned them. If not, here is a link:
Kip Motor Company
If you decide a Morgan part will work, they might be your source. I got some Weber carb bits from a Morgan when the manure they call gasoline in this country dissolved mine.

I may have a Morgan contact here in Australia. I'll make the enquiry soon.

It may be a matter of making up an adapter plate on the engine block to suit a different Tecalemit filter body with an already available conversion spin on filter.

Watch this space! :)
