I recently purchased a TO 20 Ferguson. My question is, what type of oil is used for the three point, where do I fill it, and how much?

Do I fill it through the dip stick on the right side under the seat?

A trick is to remove the lowest bolt of the dip stick cover plate at the rear . Once full to the correct level oil will come out of the bolt hole as it's at the same level as the dip stick mark . No risk of over filling and swamping your axle seals .

There is a fill plug on top of the transmission near the shifter for your trans oil.

6 gallons is the official fill.
5 gallons should keep the oil low enough not to pass the brake seals and soak the brakes, if you have bad seals.
You can always pull the lower bolt on the side PTO cover and fill until it leaks out. GL-1 90W mineral oil was the original fill. That fluid runs the trans, rear diff and hydraulics. All one sump. about 15 minutes for everything to level out. Some people like 'Sure Seals' for the brakes and those require packing the bearings with short fiber wheel bearing grease (Drum Brakes). A reason for another post.

Ive been using regular 10w30 in all of my tractors with great success. It doesnt pull in moisture (water) and is a bit cheaper.

That's what I've been running in my 9N for years. Winters get cold here and hyd lift still works good.
This was suggested by an old-time Ford dealer/mechanic, his Dad sold my tractor new in 1940....

Thank you for the help. I thought it might take awhile for the fluid to get back there.

Thought I'd save you a search- Use Universal Tractor fluid. The 1, 2 or 5 gal pail will explain. Stuff 'certified for vintage Fords' available and A-
Ok. Any vender- Tractor Supply, Nappa, Ect. will have it. It will seam a bit thin- for the Diff. Has to work in hyd sys + the Diff/ Trans. Straight Hyd oil lacks additives (EP) for your gears and ain't much cheaper. Motor Oil is -well- for motors. 'Nuff said. Plan on 6 to 7 1/4 gal. Run and lift the 3 point when topping off. Good luck.

Pour the oil in slowly. On my TE-20 I added too much and it ran into the bell housing area. Maybe I have a bad seal but you may, too. No problem after it was full to the dipstick level.

Plug behind the shifter is filler. Transmission, hydraulic/3pt, rear all have a common sump/oil.

Dip stick is for all 3. Let oil distribute before checking dipstick

Oil originally was 90W mineral oil, or 80W winter/cold. Can use other types depending on climate (winter use?). Do a search on that.
