Okay, the head gasket, intake and exhaust gaskets plus the oil pan was taken off and cleaned. After all that the tractor started again. Now back to the hydraulics.

Today I followed all the directions for taking the pump out. Everything went well until the removal. I had it on blocks so I could handle it, slid it to the rear and then it stopped. It is bound up at the present time so I stopped before breaking something.
After sliding to the rear should the pump come down evenly, or does front (or back) have to lead the way? I can't really see what is holding me up in the front, but in the rear it appears to be the relief valve. It is really hard to see in there, and the diagram looks as if there is plenty of room. I released the control valve from the cross tee, but did not remove the tee. Could that be the problem?

Do you remember if it was a pressed fit or a somewhat loose fit? Was there a flare at the top? I know it as been fifty years, but anything else you can remember would be a help.

The tube in yours is used in 8N Fords also with 9N part number. Same part number tube was used in Fords 1939-52 for sure and Ferguson's mid 40s thru mid 50's. Roberts has a good picture of used tube for sale. I don't remember anything bell shaped or special at the top. Good luck

Is the tube just a press fit? The hole seems smaller than the tube' s od. Now I'm only looking at the hole in the pump base. If the top hole is larger it may work. The ends of the tube seem captured by the housing. Has anyone done this recently?

For the amount of work involved I would make a new tube. Other than dimensions I don't think it is anything special. Pretty sure that tube is used on all grey Fergies and Ford 9N 2N part # TO567 or 9N567.

Good news is that the pump is out and cleaned up. Haven't gone inside yet but tomorrow is another day. The activation rod was not broken, and when I saw the new control valve I could see how to get it aligned to go into the pump making room for the pump to drop. Heavy bugger when lying on your back trying to bring it down without getting hit in the face.

The bad news is that the oil supply tube that runs from the base to lid is no longer available. I am thinking of finding someone who can lie on their back with the work piece 10 inches above their nose and have them try to silver solder it. Any takers?

[quote="CVPost-Duner Wi"](quoted from post at 19:42:50 11/08/23) Part number for Tube, oil center housing 181 061 M1.

Parts book says 2 required. I thought only one was required.

I replaced one about 50 years ago and what I remembered was it came out the top. Double check the # .[/quPic.

Thank you, I'll start looking.

So as not to drive you guys crazy, I'm attaching a picture of the tube. It sits against the bulkhead by the drivers shin. It runs from the base all the way to the top cover. I cannot see either attaching point. It looks like aluminum.

The Pic is from the left inspection cover. The split is at the bottom of the pic.

Okay, I've found part of the problem. Part of the control valve's activation rod broke off and is stuck in the bore. The square portion is caught on the body of the tractor not allowing the front to drop. I'm not sure if it is one piece or not. Before I ruin something important my new parts get here tomorrow so I can compare.

So, as my pappy always said "Things could always be worse" when the pump was at the lowest level I looked in and saw a cracked in the tube between pump and top cover. On the bright side,at least it was where I could see it, instead of hidden at the rear.

Is there a name or part number for that tube. I'm not seeing it in the diagrams.

Nope, sitting in a bucket in the corner. After it warms up a bit I'll try to raise it back into position. Between it's weight and accessibility it's hard to maneuver it.

Been too long since I did the wife's.
I believe if you slide it too far back it will get hung on the outer housing under the pump works. If you have the side covers off, that should help you see what the problem is.
