TO35 Gas Tank

Was out bush hogging and it started sputtering and dying and would only run with the choke out until it finally quit. Checked the obvious....oil, spark plug and distributor wires and noticed there was 1/4" space in the fuel bowl with gas dripping in. So I removed the glass bowl and saw that it was still trickling. The only thing I had with me was some WD40 so I shot some up the hole with the straw. Better, but started dribbling again. So I assume I have some crud in the tank or the screen is plugged. Trailered it home since I didn't want it to die on the road to work on it.

I had the same problem with a JD B and bought the stand up screen that attaches to the fuel bowl and provides screening in the tank which works great. Is there also one made for a TO35?

Since it has run for 3 years no problem I am assuming it isn't much crud and trying to avoid the whole clean and coat the gas tank project.

Hello: If you have not used the tractor a lot, you will have crud from condensation. I had a farmall A with the same kind of problem.

Wash the tank. If it is easy enough (it is) to take off pressure wash it. If you dont have one go to your industrial car or truck wash and

use hot water and soap. works really good. You will be surprised by the crud that accumulates. Blow it dry or let it sit in the sun.

A couple of litres of diesel fuel(O.K. I am in Canada. A litre is close to an American quart) and slosh it around in the tank. It helps to coat the tank

and mixes well with gas.

For a strainer, an old coffee basket from a worn out coffee maker is your friend. It is stainless steel and a pair of scissors cuts it just fine.

You can cut it to length and roll it to fit. You could solder it on top if you want, but you do not need to.

Good luck with your project.

So I drained the tank and pulled the fuel bowl...and learned about the hazards of opening the fuel bowl too far. I had crud down around the short port. The suggested fuel strainer won't fit the set up. I had some fine brass mesh so I was able to roll it up around a pencil and jam it around the ports so I have some protection now...and the knowledge of NOT opening the fuel bowl for the reserve! Thanks for the help
