Is there any easy way to tell if a TO 35 has live PTO? The unit is a long way from me and the owner doesnt know. I can get the serial number. He thinks it is about 196,000. No letter and the Serialnumber.

The Deluxe version had more dials on the dash and live pto.

You can feel the separate clutches when pressing the pedal down.

If the tractor is running you can tell lifting the 3pt or with the pto running.

.

Your serial # would make it a 1956 TO 35 The Special and Deluxe did not start until 1958 and the Special had no live power the Deluxe did and from 1958 on has code letters with the serial #s The 168000 and would have live power. MF TO 35s could be had single or dual stage clutch.

On the early 35 tractors before the 3 letter prefix there was an S for single clutch and no letter for dual clutch. When the 3 letter prefix came out the 3rd letter F for single and M for dual clutch so that tractor should be a dual clutch.

IF Transmission has an INSPECTION PLATE at the 6 O'clock position on the Transmission. REMOVE plate, view Clutch assembly. Dual clutch assembly had LIVE PTO when leaving factory if Clutch assembly is as per picture.
Single clutch assembly would NOT have live PTO.
