Hello new here. I just got a TE-20 and am a bit confused which starter to buy. I have seen them with the long business end and a short one. The one in there now is the short one and the bendix is bad but I think the guy before me put in the wrong one. Would the short one still start the tractor for a while before it chews on the ring gear? Is there a measurement from the case to the ring gear to tell me witch one to buy? Thanks for your help.

Using a search engine (not this sites search engine) using the below terms I did find some info.

search://https://www.yesterdaystractors.com://TO20 Starter measurements

below is info about starters.

But, he has a TE-20.

So from copy and past this it should have a stub nose not long? I might have to have another look see if there is any marks/bevel on the other side of the fly wheel. The gentleman I bought it from "put in a new clutch" I believe him. But things might have went a skew. It has a grandpa paint job, I replaced all the grease points for they had a nice heave cote of gray paint. Plus plenty of pine needles in the mix. I do not care about that just want to put it to work. I could use some info, I am not dim " if I can not fix it it aint broke, 6 pack the movie with Kenny Rogers". I got a good deal I think. Front wheel weights (for4x19) ,rear chains, tires are all checked but hold, dearborn 7'6"ish ditch digger back blade,(needs some new carriage bolts but sound) $3000.00. I also pick up from him a Dearborne 2 bottom plow, Drearboun manure bucket, and a Furguson cultivator. All 3 point one stop shop. So all in about 4 grand. The tractor is still 6V but the shift starter not working. A solenoid with a push button and now negative ground (ummm). I am playing with someone other than my erector set, if you know what I mean. The biggest bonus is it has the extra lift cylinders for the 3 point on both sides, from what I have found that is for the manure bucket. I did use it and it works well. I need some help with the continental Z-120 to get her to do her thing. Sorry if I offend the ladies out there
Thanks all Mason

Dealing with plenty of variables.
Read this about starters from this site both Delco and Lucas

NOW do a search for 4858MFGXL and you will find a starter for about half the price of the one listed in Fergy parts.

I can't make a recommendation with out knowing if you ring gear is mounted to the flywheel from the engine side or the transmission side. You should have enough info to be an informed consumer. I don't like guessing for other people where time and $ are involved.
I have had my TO20 for over 50 years and it is my go to tractor for about anything up to twice it size.
