Hi guys

Got an issue with my 51 TO-30. My hydraulics quit on me and I need to get it fixed before snow flies.

It wouldn t even raise the bar with nothing attached. Now, several months later it will at least raise up with nothing attached.

What is my issue and what needs to be done? I know nothing about hydraulics and can t find anyone to work on it.

last time you changed hydro fluid?
Your where?
Engine off, NOT running! Pull the side cover.
Reach inside.
Linkage still hooked up to the valve?
Feel it with your hands.
That is why the engine is NOT running.
Try draining the fluid. About a cup is all you want to drain off.
How much water came out?
Some?
Drain it all and replace the control valve that rusted and broke.
None?
Stuff the drain plug back in before you loose all the juice.
It's been busted how long?
And you now looking to fix it in a day.
We understand.

If you dont already have one, get a repair manual. IT manuals do a good job. The rebuild kit is here on the parts site. I did one years ago
using a manual and had no problems.

Lets just make that paragraph 2.

1. You may just need new o-rings on the lift piston.

Again you should get a repair manual.

Photo of IT manual take a look at the rings.

Fluid is probably 20 years old.

I m in western N.Y.

Hydraulics quit last winter

I do have a repair manual but mechanically challenged.

Put a new pressure relief valve and rings last time I changed the fluid (20 years ago)

Should I just try to change the fluid? I m sure it s got to have some water in it, at least from condensation.

Just a dose of harsh reality on a soggy Monday morning.
I have a Ford 850 that I can add a front blade to and it's for sale.
My snow toy is a orange MX5400 wth a tiny 8 foot snow blade.
It needs a 10' blade. Silly thing shrinks when you angle it.
Snow this year maybe in another month from now.
However January is coming and I have too many projects that need tending.
Including a morphodite white '93 F350 7.3 idiT project from Hades.
I am rebuilding and updating the entire drive train and a few other things.
Winter is going to smack me hard this year.

Water creates rust.
Rust kills control valves.
Drain the goo.
Replace the valve.
Refill and see what you get.

Hi Tyler, If you did that 20 years ago, you can't be that mechanically challenged.
If your repair manual has a trouble shooting section for the hydraulics. I would start there. But the first things to do is remove the inspection plate and feel down there while moving the control lever up and down. You want to see if the control valve is moving in and out of the bore. Next start the tractor and look up at the top cover and look for leaks while trying raise the 3 point.

Jim,

My neighbor did the work, sorry didn t mean to take credit for something I m not capable of.

Going to work on it tomorrow. Will report back on what I find.

Thanks everyone.
