Help please TO 35 -Standard 23c Air cleaner problem

I'm working on a 1958 TO 35 Diesel, Standard 23c , Wagner FEL. I'm trying to get a working tractor.

Trying to locate a 11 inch tall oil bath air cleaner or ideas to retrofit/ replace it . Original cup rusted out. I could rebuild the filter media but the cup is trashed.

Anyone have any sources? Could the 14 inch cleaner from yesterdays be configured by drilling a hole in the hood, adding a pre-filter or would this be another problem to have to deal with? Does anyone have an ideas about finding a salvaged air cleaner
( made lots of calls), or retrofitting in any way? Anyone know where I can buy an after market?
I have a working 1968 135 Continental gas and thought this would be relatively easy job not the rabbit hole I jumped into.
Thanks for any and all help
Steve

Making the assumption that its the same filter as the
FE35 (also fitted with the 23C) they are available new
from a company I deal with in the Uk. I assume youre in
the US somewhere?

Yes in Southwest Washington state, I did find a UK site with dimensions and yes it's the same filter assembly. Who do you deal with in UK? How long does it take shipping wise to get your part?

My tractor was built in Canada. Evidently you folks don't have
parts companies for Standard 23c Ferguson's in Canada, nothing comes up for Canada online only UK and Australia for this search.
Got the intake hose from Yesterday's. most sites have the hose but no assembly go figure.

thanks again for the suggestion/ help

I can highly recommend Agriline. For one part the
shipping will be pretty bad unfortunately. I resell quite a
bit of stuff here in Canada and can break the freight up
over multiple items so it becomes economical. Usually
most parts take about 7 days from Agriline to me.

I didnt see any option for emailing you, but (I hope) there
should be a link on this post for you to email me. Thanks,
Sam

.

If you are seeking to have a working tractor (not a parade show tractor) you might consider what I did with my snow plow MF35 gas that I bought as a parts tractor and got working again: I stopped in the local lawn mower repair shop popular with the landscapers. Asked them what they had for simple air filters and for $20 I got a part off a scrapped zero turn mower with about the same horsepower that has a dual cartridge filter and the same in/out cross sectional area pipes. The canister was about the same as the stock oil bath can. Fit under the hood without modifications and I just run the inlet pipe under the dash. It works for now and sometime I'll come across the proper one cheap I'll get that in there.

.

For a cheap fix (yes, I am cheap) if you are not concerned about originality, a sweep 90 pvc conduit and a large motorcycle air filter off Amazon. Works fine for me.

Yes I hope it will start, it has good compression. Just like a boat a hole in the water you pour money into Helping out a neighbor that didn't have financing to get an expensive tractor.

Sorry neither of our show e-mail boxes were checked. Wanted to thank you for your help and offer to purchase from you ( okay since yesterday's doesn't stock what I needed). do you have a TO35 23c or an FE335 23 c?

Thats odd, I see that theres a send email option on my last post, either way. I dont personally have a 35 with the 23C at the moment. There is one belonging to a friend in my shed at the moment waiting for my attentions, I have owned a couple in the past, I have also owned a TEF20 with the 20C diesel.

I don't have aux heat plugs. any hints to make sure it runs after cleaning everything, I'm putting in new filters, fuel;and a fuel pump, from yesterdays and an oil cleaner from agriline. My friend says short limited shots of ether; ever used wd40 and does it prevent wash of the cylinders like ether
Thanks again Sam
Steve

Your best bet is to avoid ether if at all possible. Install a
block heater or at least a lower radiator hose heater. If
there is a thermostart plug in the intake manifold make
sure it works and use it. Make sure the starter motor is
good - a draggy starter that turns it over a little more
slowly will significantly impact starting. Having a good
battery and cables goes along with this. You should
check the injection pump timing, its fairly easy to do but
I cant remember the procedure off the top of my head -
this may be the single most important thing. A valve set
would not hurt. When these engines are set up well they
can start nicely.

Sam, yesterdays parts arrived waiting on UK, took off oil filter cannister, filter as there everything else was missing but the spring!

Sounds like the oil filter wasnt doing much good. What
history do you have of this machine? Have you ever had it
running?

Sam
never running prev. owner said 2yrs ago. Replaced a #4 battery cable with #2 & the starter cranked engine. took 2 gal water out of trans and put in some old diesel to flush trans.

When you start work on your tractor could you get some dimensions for the rubber/felt? gasket under the domed washer (#42)? Found "new oil filter repair kit mf35" online if you need circlip, dome washer, spring and rubber grommet. "the farming forum" says gasket is felt 1/8" thick & talks about the purolator full flow assembly as being the same as triumph 2.
trying to determine type and dimension on #42 gasket. page 40 TO35 parts book
felt wouldn't make a tight seal
I looked online and found spin on conversion for tr2...don't know if I want to risk $120+ in the hope it would work... will get it running first.
Thanks
