Battery Size

I would go with a low amp battery. Best take some measurements to be sure it will fit before buying.

Some even use a garden tractor battery to reduce the starter torque!

Just to go a little sideways, I switched to an 8 volt battery and single wire pos ground alternator on my #1 TO30. Same size as the 6 v battery and a bit more power.

The Group 1 was original and ran out at about 640 CCA.
I don't believe your going to find a Group 1 at 1,000 CCA.

Thanks for all the responses but I'm going to ask stupid question..LOL I don't understand the group thing guys have said, and I forgot to say it's converted to 12v. I have had issues with it cranking over it's like the starter gets stuck..I even put a new starter on 185 dollars later, so I'm thinking the battery isn't enough for it.
Thanks

'Group' refers to the basic physical dimensions and post configuration of the battery.

There is usually a range of amp ratings available for each group size.

The replacement starter you have, is it a 6 volt or 12 volt?

If 6 volt, operating it on 12v will cause the starter to slam the flywheel, which is hard on the starter and flywheel. Going with a high amp battery only make this condition worse. The lower the amp rating of the battery, the easier it will be on the starter, to a certain extent.

If the starter is 12v, a couple of possibilities, but not sure what you mean by getting stuck. Can you explain that further please? Also, how it the starter powered, through the original starter contactor, or has a solenoid been added?

Whatever starter you have, there is no need for a high amp battery on that small low compression engine. They have a reputation for being easy starters, so once everything is right any battery will crank it easily and quickly.

I put a napa group 34 battery in my 12 volt TO30. Fits perfectly. About 800 cca, 660 ca. Plenty strong.

From the internet.
The group size is simply the physical dimensions of the battery housing as set by the BCI (Battery Council International). The size can increase in either length, width, or height.

When I buy a battery I want one that will crank the engine over so fast it slows down when it starts.

I get the dimensions of the battery tray, and put the biggest one in that will fit. I also buy good quality batteries.
