Another oil pump follow up

I went on line to Agco parts. The oil pump cover lists as an available part, but is on back order. And they
could not tell me how long. So, I ordered a reconditioned pump from Wengers. Yes, cost more, but I am
thinking the aggravation of drilling the set screw hole, reaming the bushings and trying to find a new
cover is about even. I am hoping the grinding noise I heard was the set screw churning against the
pump cover. And I am hoping the drag kept the pump working until just before I realized the oil pressure
was near zero. So, hopefully no engine damage. I think the metal grindings I found were the set screw.
While I have everything apart, I need to replace the head gasket and fix the governor. I use this tractor
for a lot of small jobs so hurts to be out of action.

Hoping it all works out for you! I totally understand about having a tractor out of service and needing it! Keep us updated and good luck!

Copper should show up also, IF present.
Me? If the engine wasn't in the best of condition and the credit card needed banging, would step up and bang away.
Now if the bank account is already squeaking and it was a shot in the dark attempt of a repair, do the oil pump, pack it as I described in your last post. Replace the 2 round seals in the oil pick up tube, those can be found at hydraulic parts/repair shops, clean out the sump and see what happens.
If the engine is happy with 50 years of crusty oil coating the bearings, might survive.
Or might start a~knockin' in a few days or weeks.
If your bored, roll the dice and see what you get.
If you desire a definite answer, send me some Gold Pressed Latinum so I can get batteries for my crystal ball.
