Oil pump condition follow up

Here is what I found inside the oil pump, the set screw in the pump drive gear must have backed out
and chewed up a donut gouge in the cover, then disintegrated. I am assuming the cover plate is junk?
Not sure if those are available. Any suggestions? I am hoping the engine is ok. I am not seeing anything
horrible looking up inside.

That pump is junk. There's at least 3 pumps on eBay right now, condition unguaranteed I'm sure. I rebuilt one recently, new gears and bushings. Kits are available, but you'll need a reamer for the bushings and drilling the hole for the set screw in the drive gear requires either a fixture or some quality drill press/machine shop work.

The original had a lead gasket between the pump body and cover, the kits provide a fiber gasket. I guess it's fine...

Reamer to size the bushings - about $40 from an industrial supply house. It didn't take much, but had to be done.

Tisco fixture to guide the drill bit for the hole for the drive gear set-screw. I found one on eBay, I don't know if they are still made. I'll look up the number on the box if you want me to.

You'll need a 1/4-28 (I think) tap to thread the hole for the set-screw.

How I found the pump when I removed the front engine cover to service the governor. It was working (governor was not)...

Or you could slap a used pump in there and hope for the best...

Thanks for the info. Its interesting your exterior set screw striped whereas with mine, the interior one.
Which I think is probably worse.

I think the oil gear to shaft is a roll pin rather than a set screw - I will look tomorrow, I think the parts are still around.
