TO20 12 volt conversion

Ive been working on this TO20 for about a week now on and off. Ive now gotten to the point to where Im ready to install the 12 volt conversion, this is by the way my first TO20 Ive worked on, my previous projects have been all TO30s. Anyhow, this 12 volt conversion is a lot different than the 30s, starting with the lower alternator bracket, I had to remove the factory one that also was a shim. The other side had no shim so I should be good. But by removing that shim, it put the alternator pulley nut closer to the shroud. The top bracket that comes with the 12 volt kit seems out of alignment. It just looks crappy to my eye, the bottom bolt that holds the alternator in the bottom bracket is very close to the belt, as is the top brackettop one may even rub a little after all said and done. Im almost considering putting it back to 6 volt and be done with it. However Im almost done with the conversion... but its been a headache for sure. Ok Im done rambling.

K.Campbell, I read your post yesterday, and wanted to take a photo of my set-up but had to wait till it quit raining. Anyway here is.

What did you use for the bottom mount? Top mount looks like its from a Chevrolet, does the governor hit? Just wondering because I may change mine out. Im not too terribly happy with it.. Ill see how it works when I get it wired up and running

I bought this tractor with it already converted. Does the O.E.M. generator mount down on those ears? I don't know. Anyway, this one has a spacer as you can see and two bars that raise the alternator up away from anything below. It doesn't interfere the governor linkage.

If you go to eBay and search 'Alternator Bracket, Ferguson TO-20 / TE-20, Generator to Alternator Conversion' you will find a high quality, if kinda expensive, alternator adapter for the TO-20. The inventor posted about it here within the last year or so. I don't know if it's worth it to you, but at least you're aware.

I'll see if I can post a link.

Well I do beleive I have everything all squared away with my alternator brackets and belt alignment. Now to the wiring, everything is crystal clear except do you guys use the red alternator warning light when you convert? If so how does that convert?

ooks real neat, but at 2X to 3X the cost of alternator, I'll pass.

If you have the common Delco internal regulated alternator the generator end of the charge indicator light would go to #1 edge pin on alternator.

This is for a 3 wire alternator. It will not work on some one wire alternators. If you have a one wire you can try it. If it works ok, if not you can change to 3 wire alternator, or install a volt meter or ammeter.
