reverse linkage adjustment

I recently replaced the starter linkage on my TO20 which was unhooked since when I purchased the tractor. Now it seems like when I shift into reverse it acts like it is moving the reverse gear too far and will
grind if I pull the gear shift lever back too far. The detent is working in neutral correctly. Is there an adjustment that can be made to correct it. As long as I am careful about not pulling it too far it
acts fine. When the tractor is not running it seems like it goes into gear more solidly. Thanks for any help.

I finally got around to looking at my problem with the grinding noise. When I replaced the linkage arm that activates the starter switch, I was getting some interference between the lever that activates the switch and the shaft below it when I would shift into reverse.I adjusted the switch mounting plate and eliminated most of the rattle but not all of it. I'm thinking of shimming the switch mounting plate up with a gasket or two and see if that cures it. I think that was what may have happened to the original parts that was on it.
