carb float needle

hi guys, i've had carb flooding issues both while running and after shutdown. ive replaced the float needle, but its still intermittantly happening.

i was wondering if there is a better quality float needle available for the zenith 24 carb that will seal better than the stainless-on-brass needle?

Is this happening after putting a kit in the carb? Are you replacing the needle and seat as a pair or just the needle as you wrote?

If you replaced the seat, along with the needle as should be done, did it fully tighten the gasket under it to the carb body? If there is leakage by the threads, gas will get by even if the needle seats. With the float, needle and seat in place if you invert the carb top and blow in the inlet fitting, does the needle stop air flow?

Is the float good and not rubbing or hanging up on the bowl somewhere?

Before replacing the needle and seat try a little valve grinding paste and lap the two together. Some creativity with rigid plastic tube to hold the needle and a battery drill used carefully will be enough to do the job .
Be really sure the tank is clean as well as the filter and bowl . Fitting an inline filter to eliminate the possibility of fuel contamination as a cause might help as well .
When all else fails a normally closed fuel solenoid used on LPG powered cars is an effective addition . It will only open when the ignition is on and shut itself and the fuel flow when off .

Ive found the black tipped needles work better than the red ones if you have a choice. The red ones Ive had ,I believe ,react to the ethanol
that is in our regular gas and swell up losing the ability to make a good seals

The metal on metal valves work well when they are right. They handle ethanol gas better, less likely to
stick closed when stored.

As said, try lapping it, be sure the seat tightens down on the gasket properly. Be sure the float does not
have gas in one of the pontoons, be sure the float is not touching the inside of the bowl. A good test of
the needle valve is to invert the carb, suck on the fitting, put your tongue over the hole, it should hold
vacuum.

Any trace of rust or trash coming down from the tank will hold the valve open. There should be a screen in
the fuel line fitting in the carb, be sure it is there and intact. When making the final fuel line
connection, turn the gas on, let the line flush, then make the connection with fuel flowing. That will keep
trash from getting in, especially if the area is greasy/dirty.

look at the float, if it was dented or pushed down at the top it will NOT work.
Zenith 24 Carb floats are a free floating float and are not attached to any part of the Carb foundation like 99 %% of
vintage carbs.
There is a TOP orientation on the Floats that I have seen.
