Anyone have a cure for a stripped out hoodlatch screw receiver? I got a new screw but it doesn't hold any better than the original.

Are you talking about the threads thats in the actual dash? If so I would extend the threads on the bolt by tack welding the same bolt on it and then put a nut on it. The other fix is to find and other dash and replace the dash. Maybe someone else has better ideas but thats all I have.

Another thought for you, my dad has owned his to30 since 1964, when I started messing with these about a decade ago, i found a TO30 that was in original untouched condition.. a literal barn find. Anyhow, I showed it to dad and he noticed it had a hood latch and asked what that was for.. his may have had a latch at one time.. but someone removed it and its not had one since 1964. My point is that the latches arent needed, so theres no real need to go through the process of fixing it unless your restoring it and want it right.

Not sure which latch you are referring to.

The ones underneath that hold the hood down to the dash? Best I recall they are just threaded hooks with wing nuts.

On top, there were 2 different hoods. Early one has 2 buttons or something that holds it shut. They were troublesome I hear, never actually dealt with one.

The newer design had a single threaded stud with a knob. I would have to go look, but as I recall I replaced the threaded hole with an all thread stud and double nuts, one over and one under, stud up through the hood. Then made a knurled knob screwed on top. You can but ready made knobs at McMaster Carr.
