TO-35 input seal

Gents
I need to replace the input seal for the transmition in my 1960 TO-35. The manual clearly states that one needs to remove the pto live shaft brg housing, a snap ring, and pull the shaft out to let the drive gear fall down so that the input shaft housing can be removed. I am to this point and there is no snap ring and the shaft will not come out. I think that I am going to have to split the transmition off the tractor and pull it out the back. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Is this a later TO-35 thing, or some kind of modification?

Thanks!

If your replacing input seal in transmission you have to spilt tractor. Don't remove pto shaft. After splitting tractor there is a round plate on left lower side of shaft. This is where the snap rings are to let gear down. Retainer assembly has 4 bolts to remove to get to 2 seals.

Yes, the tractor is split. I have removed the bearing housing from the PTO LIVE shaft directly below the input shaft. No snap rings...

Look close. Hard to see and get out. There is a washer- spacer that has a lip that goes one way. It's after snap ring comes off. Lip goes to inside when reassembling. Snap ring will not go in groove if turned wrong. Look close when taking apart.

I have installed both Oil SEALS om my MF 35 6 speed....NO Multipower..

Some models of 6 speed has to have the lower shaft removed through the AFT / REAR of the Transmission.. some models' have to have the lower shaft removed through the FRONT / FORWARD of the Transmission..

Pics are of my 1963 MF 35 6 speed NO Multipower..

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get back in to it Friday. It will save me a lot of work if that snap ring is indeed hiding behind a washer.

.

There's a youtube video series on the 'bundy bears' channel that strips down the transmission and shows how to replace those seals. I used it on my 1955 TO35 transmission and I had to take the bottom shaft out the opposite side (rest was the same) of the BB videos but those videos helped a lot.
