TEA20 Oil Pump

Photo should include PN 825204M91 Oil Pump Cover Assembly for TEA20 Oil Pump. I'm going to call the curved tube in the photo the oil pick-up tube. The tube on this oil pump is NOT rigidly attached. That is, it wobbles a bit. It can be moved by hand - just a bit.

Question is should this oil pick-up tube be firmly attached to the cover assembly - with no movement? Another question is would this slight movement have any effect on the pump obtaining oil?

Note*
On the TEA-20 OIL pickup that I own...the OIL PICKUP has not been firmly attached to the OIL PUMP since new..

Note*
Given oil pump inlet is FLOODED...NOT likely any effect on the pump obtaining oil

You might also find a seal at the end of the tube that should get replaced. That seal made seemingly from unobtanium from the land of obsoletum might be able to be purchased at your local hydraulic supply shop.

Wanted to be sure there was a clean oil pan. Just part of the checking out process.

We began getting oil flow today after pumping a fair amount of oil into the block through the oil pressure line at the block yesterday. Weren't trying to get it today. It just happened. I'm really trying to get the electrical working, instead of off/on, so that we can try and start/run the engine a bit.

But, a question you may be able to answer. We did NOT put the old oil filter back in. Simply added 5 qts of oil and no filter. Will a filter assist with oil pressure once we install one?

I don't understand how your measuring works in the two photos.

Thanks.

As per internet:
Plastigauge

Plastigauge is a measuring tool used for measuring plain bearing clearances, such as in engines.

Plastigauge consists of a strip of soft material with precise known dimensions and deformation characteristics. This is sandwiched between a clean bearing surface on a shaft and the bearing shell itself. The plastigauge flattens after the bearing cap is tightened. The dimensional clearance is then determined by comparing the amount that the gauge material has flattened using a template. Letter designation describes the range of measurement use for each gauge.

If you believe / know your ENGINE has LOW Oil pressure...
You are going to have to locate the area or area's that have to MUCH RUNNJNG CLERANCE/ Excessive clearance outside manufactures specifications.

The information from the Ferguson Service Manual causes me to believe the removal of the OIL FILTER will only allow foreign material to pass through the Engine and possibly destroy the Bearing insets and or the Crankshaft Journals..
With all due respect...
I have never and most likely shall never operate a piece of Equipment that was designed to operate with an oil filter.

I would NEVER operate my TEA-20 with out the filter element installed...
Filters are designed to remove harmful foreign Material...
