Denso SI 10 alternator

I am having trouble with my Denso SI 10 alternator. It is putting out 16+ volts.

I think I have it wired wrong.

Would this be the correct wiring diagram for the Ferguson TO20
I have the number 2 terminal and the Battery lug going to the correct places, or at least like the diagram.

I just was not sure this was the correct diagram and the correct placement of the number 1 lug (attaching it to the resistor).

Disconnect battery, hook to headlight. Leave it on to drain the battery down to 12.6 volts static.
Take your Denso alt in for a test.
Rebuild / Replace as needed.
Reinstall, recheck voltage with engine running.
Delco alts generally run 13.2 to 14.8 volts.
 
The wiring diagram looks good.

Do you have a resistor in the wire between the ignition switch and the # 1 terminal? A small
incandescent lamp is sufficient. Even if there is no resistor, the regulator would still work and
not cause it to overcharge.

One small detail of the drawing, the positioning of the #1 and #2 terminals. On an early Delco
alternator, pre internal regulator, the terminals are parallel as shown in the drawing, and uses a
square harness plug.

A 10SI alternator with an internal regulator will have the terminals end to end and have a
rectangular harness plug.Be sure you have the correct alternator.

If the wiring checks out, take the alternator to an auto supply and have it tested.
 
Got the alternator fixed. It just required a new one! The old one did not have an internal regulator and the new one does. Thanks.
