TEA20 Serial number plates - ally or brass?

I have a '48 TEA with no data plate, I have the serial number so can get a new one made but have been told the plate could be brass or ally. Was there a point that they changed over as I've only ever seen ally in the flesh or on the web.

Or does it not really matter?

1948 Alloy plate . Very few brass plates were used in comparison to alloy ones , they were usually on tractors supplied with Continental engines rather than Standard Motors ones . Alloy plates corrode badly and are so soft the corners held by rivets break easily , probably why yours is missing .

If the rivets of yours are still there exercise lots of patience when removing them . They are 'screw ' rivets and have to be rotated anti clockwise when lifting in order to get them out without mangling the alloy steering turret .
