TO 20 i have two Neither one has a thermostat. One runs mid range temp other hot will run in the red at high RPM , switched temp gages to check thats not it. I have a new thermostat . Question? Goes in the top hose "yes ??" Pointed end into the flow "yes??" THANKS

To help you better understand the PURPOSE of the thermostat,,, it
is designed to sense the coolant temperature and stay partially
CLOSED until the operating temperature gets UP to the designated
temperature of the thermostat. THEN,, it slowly OPENS to let the hot
coolant to flow thru the radiator to start the cooling the cooling. The
thermostat will not fully open in order to allow the coolant
RESIDENCE TIME in the radiator to bring temp down to the
thermostat temp. When thermostat is removed from cooling
system,,the coolant will circulate TOO FAST and never gets a chance
to cool down and engine will run HOT!! Hope this helps you,,,

Pointed end goes towards the radiator, the end with the copper/brass colored bulb goes toward the engine. That bulb senses the coolant temperature and opens the thermostat.
