Replacing draft control boot TO-35

I've got my hydraulic top cover removed from the TO-35 and have successfully removed the clevis yoke and spring assembly. The rubber boot was rotted so needs replacement. Further disassembly looks difficult and I'll bet the boot won't stretch over the spring.

Even if I can drive the little retaining pin out of the clevis, the base cup rotates with the spring so nothing to clamp to for unthreading the clevis. I'm tempted to saw thru the rod and replace it just to get it apart. Any tricks for this?

Thanks Steve, I've also considered just slicing the boot and using some hi tech self almalgamating "electrical" tape to secure it back together....

Not really an area I would want to short cut.

A lot of work to re do it, and if it lives outside, a bad boot will funnel water into the cases!
