TO35 Lift cylinder

I have a TO35 that has a busted lift
cylinder. Part number for it is
180967m1. It's a 2.5" cylinder. Does
anyone know if I can use a later model
cylinder for this tractor ? It's a 3"
and instead of studs going through with a
nut this one is tapped and uses 9/16
instead of 1/2 bolts. I found specs
online on the bolt pattern and it seems
the same as what I have . Part number
for later 3" cylinder is 184442m1. From
what I've read I think I can use this
cylinder as a replacement but will need
to open holes up on top plate and
obviously get a new piston. Can
anyone confirm if this idea will work ?
Finding anyone with the cylinder I need
in stock is proving to be impossible so
far.

Good day Jferguson5959..
First off, I'm not a MF trained Technician..
Secondly, I own the Original MF 35 X that my parents purchased new in 1963...and have performed all maintenance..

In the late 1970's a neighbor was moving ROUND BAILS of hay on the rear lift of his 1962 MF 35..
As the tractor crossed a rough spot in his field....the TOP COVER of his Tractor split crossways and he was injured..

I would not and have refused to install new HYD PUMPS with the 2500 psi relief valve in / on Fergusons.... MF Tractors that are not equipment with the heavier top cover...

I believe this cover was from a Ferguson TO-35 that was not set up properly...as in MAX LIFT ..
All the best
Bob..

I forgot to mention....

...FORCE =P X A .....3" Diam. piston = 7.06 sq inches
.....2.5" Diam. piston = 4.90 sq inches....

The original TOP cover could very well NOT stand / fracture given the FORCE that is capable of the lift now with the 3" Diam Piston..

Bob ... (No guaranties on my math...........:))

You might make it work, but I would be afraid to do it.

Very likely to break the top cover. Sometimes a broken cover can take out the case also.

And there are no 2000 PSI relief valves to be found.

Best option is to find a later model top cover.
