TO-30 Clutch Replacement

I'm rebuilding my Z129 engine and have the engine off. I was looking at the clutch disc and it's got some wear on it. The clutch has always worked fine but I was thinking
about replacing the disc while I'm there. Everything else looks fine best I can tell. Is it advisable to purchase and replace the pressure plate and throwout bearing
also?

Yes, it is customary to replace the whole assembly. But if it is working, no hot spots on the pressure plate, the wear pattern is equal all the way around, the release fingers are not worn, you might get by with it. I would replace the release bearing though.

Also consider what the use will be, is it a working tractor or mostly parades and shows?

Something about the new clutch discs, different material, something makes them more prone to sticking. Might want to fab a hook or come up with a way to block the pedal down when not in use.

If it's in the budget, not a good place to be taking short cuts, but it's your tractor, not like you are standing behind your work for a customer...

How is the starter gear? Be a good time to replace the transmission input shaft seal too.

New clutch disc have much less zinc and copper. More steel. More inclined to freeze to the pressure plate when stored unless the clutch pedal is held open with either a 'C' clamp or a length of wood.
This is one option and the other is a Kevlar clutch disc. Kevlar does not like to be slipped and prefers a faster harsher engagement.
Kevlar is also far less oil resistant.
The wife's TO is a Kevlar and has sat for a year plus with not being started. Never have had a stuck clutch with it.
Neighbors JD has a new disc in it and it stuck after about 2 months of sitting.

Three questions:

1. How badly worn is the old clutch? Enough to be slipping?

2. How much hard work do you plan for this tractor. Starting a heavy load wears clutches, steady pulling a load should not.

3. How many years do you have left to wear the clutch out? For instance, if you are 21, you would expect to be able to use the tractor for many years. If you are in your mid 80's, will it be worthwhile to worry about the clutch?
