Ted20 throttle problem

Hi Guys. My TED20 has a throttle problem. The throttle lever wont stay where I set it. Instead it springs back. To maintain decent rpm I have to keep the lever held down (against the vertical governor spring?).

I know there is a friction plate behind the metal disc on the dash that the lever is connected to. Do I need to replace that, and if so, does anyone have any advice on how to do this? It looks like I'd have to pull the whole throttle rod out through the dash...

Thanks for your help!

I've never had to replace the friction disc, but if it's still there, try moving the spring clamp closer to put more spring force on it. But, yes the rod will have to come out to replace the disc. You can make a disc out of a piece of thick cork gasket material. If you take the linkage rod out, you will have to reset the max RPM. That is set with the U bolt clamp.

Also there is a compensating spring, #21. If it is missing the throttle will not stay where you want it.

Thanks Steve, the friction disc looks like a perished bit of rubber so I will have a go at replacing it. I do have the compensating spring #21 but, having spoken to Fergiland, it sounds like I have the wrong length vertical governor spring on my TED (mine has 24 coils and they're supposed to have 27 apparently). I wonder if this would add to the problem I have, thoughI'm not sure how it would...

Thanks again

The short spring could cause the throttle to creep. I suspect the gov spring and compensating spring are matched to work together.

But if the hand lever is loose, the disc is dried out and hard, I would try that first.
