1948 Ferguson Tachometer?

Hello, I have a thing for era correct. I have a 48 8N and want a tachometer (proofmeter) for a 1948 tractor. Did Ferguson or another make have a tach in 48?
Thank's

Are you playing with a Fergy or that 8N?
The 8N Ford ran a tach starting in '50. You can find another dash panel for a 50/52 8N and a new proof-meter. I believe You will need a
different governor with the drive cable and a different rod set up with an oil line.
The wife's 1950 TO-20 came with a generator driven proof-meter. A bit less involved than the 8N.

s that a no go on a 48 Ferguson tachometer?

I would like to see what is out there for the 1948 year model no matter the brand. As long it is a reasonably priced unit and fits the 8N looks.

On a side note the 8N steering gear box is different in 48. I do not know if that has any bearing on how the dash will fit.

I am located in Roswell, New Mexico for the time being. Era correct for me means what was available that year. Ford's proofmeter didn't come out till April 1950 so it is a no go for my 48. I appreciate the offer though.

I need a new alternator anyway. The one below caught my eye. According to a Ferguson owner the Ferguson tach cable should screw right into the back. Is this correct?

Smiths made a ' Tractor Meter ' for Ferguson UK under licence that was fitted by dealers as an accessory to all TE models .
It was mounted next to the steering box and was operated by a cable and Carden wheel mechanism running on a small pulley extension fitted to the dynamo . It was suitable for Continental engines as well as the Standard Motors' petrol , TVO and Diesel engines .
This is one I have fitted to my 1952 TED20

knew about Smith instruments but not that one. That is a very simple design. All the searching I did for a tachometer drive for the 226 I missed it somehow. Thank's for posting it.

It's very much an instrument of averages Chris , rather than a precision meter . RPM is very accurate as long as the tyre on the carden wheel isn't worn , hours seem to be be based on a nominal 1500 rpm . Speed is dependant on tyre size , the 12.4 x 28's on my TED throw it off considerably.
There is no adjustment, the unit is sealed and takes some time and patience to open and repair .

This site has a proof/tachometer for a TO-20. The gear ratios between my tractor and the Ferguson are within 0.0X. Ferguson reverse is 2 mph slower. The more I look at these older T models the more I like them.
