F 40 Need info

New to site so be nice. My F 40 SGM 406289 has a red frame. does not seem to have
paint under it by scraping a spot Is this possible or has the sheet metal of a 40 been put on a MH 50 or MF 50 engine is Z134 647877 HELP

My 56 TO 35 has a red “primer” (at least thats what im calling it) under the paint on the castings. In any sense, the F40 should be a flint metallic gray belly/engine. Even if it was swapped sheet metal onto a MH 50, it would be the “gold” belly and red sheet metal combo depending on the vintage of the 50. Later 50’s were flint metallic gray bellies.

That red primer is more likely "Glyptal" which is a sealant for the cast iron to keep the oil from soaking through the cast iron used back in the day.

Most F40's were painted red and flint gray after the MF(1958) came out.Dealers couldn't sell them in Bamboo and flint gray. MH50 has bronze chassis- MF50 has flint gray. More than likely someone just painted it red. Does the side panels on yours have two bolts at dash or three. F40 had two and 50's had three.

Thinking about that again, gee I am slow.... Glyptal was applied on the inside of the cast iron housing. NOT the outside.

There different front ends in a row. Show was the 2008 Ferguson Expo at Lanesville Indiana.

Also there was a few early green belly built. This is number 40038 built.
