Hello, first of all I would not even bother to try to do anything through the PTO shaft hole........ not even a vet could do it!!!! The axle housing will have to be removed first. If removing the left hand side be careful as the differential may come with it. It can be left on the Rh shaft. Check whether you have a tapered or parallel pin. If a tapered pin ensure that the nut will tighten it. You may have to add a washer under the nut. Check the degree of wear on the pin and in the housing. If it is only minimal and will tighten you can use a metal paste such as JB Weld liberally applied around the pin and casing hole. Allow plenty of time for it to harden.
If itís a parallel pin and too loose for JB you should be able to team or file the hole to a larger diameter and have a slightly larger pin machined
. If you can increase the diameter to a known size it will give the machinist something to work to.
The JB has proved successful on a number of occasions over the years, the last one being a FE35 about a year ago.

Long time since I was on here. Hi Dave S Wales.
But ..
I just did the right hand pin sucessfully through the PTO hole. I have quite small hands. I persevered and got the split pin out. Left handed is hard for me. It took a while!!
But then the nut came easy. There should be a gasket between the external metal block and the trumpet says the drawing in the manual.
Tightening it again is a slow job. Only one or two reachet clicks are possible. Make sure you know where the split pin hole is and as it comes right and tight one click at a time pop the pin through.
A deft flick with a screwdriver to spread the pin and the jobs a good'un. Not easy but it is possible. I used Blue Hylomar on the new home made thin paper gasket and got the nut tight.
The LH side looks impossible to me.
