Nothing will be gained from the high voltage coil.
But, you do need to make sure you have the correct coil or coil/resistor combo.
If in doubt, either check the resistance across the + and - terminals of the coil (out of circuit), or from the - terminal to the ign switch side of the resistor. The reading should be around 3 ohms.
If the resistance is too low, down around 1.5-2.0, ther will be too much load on the Pretronix and it will be short lived and the coil will overheat.
Also spiral core resistor wires are recommended.
If there were a warranty issue with the unit, they will ask about these items.
