TO35 Alternator Mounting Help

I bought an alternator on this site with a gear drive. After it arrived, I realized it wouldn't work on the factory mount so I ordered a 'unversal mount'. After about 10 dollars in assorted washers, bolts, bushings, and 3 hours I think I have something that will mount and line up with the pulleys. Everything must be situated exactly right and cranked down crazy tight to make it clear. I cannot under any circumstances get the top bracket to mount to the alternator. I have moved it around on the water pump, I've put it on the outside and inside of the alternator, and finally I just yanked an arm off my TE20.

None of these options allow proper mounting.

I would be incredibly grateful is someone could put me in touch with someone or some parts that will allow me to properly mount this alternator where the bolts don't interfere with the belt and the top arm doesn't interfere with the throttle linkages. I just cannot figure it out.

What do I need to do to get this mounted ??

Here is a link to my Tractor Photos. The latest photos are of the mounted alternator.

Maybe I'm out in left field and there is a better way to do this that I'm not aware of??

From what I see, looks like a straight arm off the water pump bolt, with an offset.

What do you have to work with? A welder would be handy.

What I do is mock up something out of cardboard, make a pattern.

Found this on Youtube, it's a TO20 but should be the same, kinda sorta shows the upper bracket. There are probably more if you look around. The clearance between the gov linkage will be tight, be sure it doesn't hit.
Alt Mount

I can pioneer something if I have to. On my contraption, the top bracket mounts on, what I consider, to be the wrong side. I'd like it on the other side so it clears everything and can be adjusted easily but my pulley does not seem to allow lining up without offsetting that top bracket. I'll have to build something.

My son made my,run a bracket forward off the two original
generator mounts and welded to ears on them it was a really close
fit , but came out perfect, sorry I don't have a better picture
but I can get one tomorrow if you like

Good morning your picture as promised, my Son run has piece of
strap steel along the generator bracket mounting bolts, then
fabricated a U-shaped clevis of the same material to hold the
alternator Bolt.. and welded it to that strap.... got perfect
alignment.....Ed

I reused the generator bracket and this alternator mount with a few washers for spacers. If you’re going to use the tach drive you need to swap to the
generator pulley for a more correct reading. This also means you have to rev up a bit to get a the alternator charging.

Is the TO-35 original generator bracket the same as the MF35?

I didn't need anything special to mount the alternator to my 35. I literally just bolted the lower mounting for the alternator to the front of the old generator mount using the original bolt, and slightly bent the upper adjustment bracket from the generator to better fit the alternator. I found a long bolt in my basement for the upper mount.

Just so everyone's aware, I know it's "mounted upside down"

;)

But no modifications to get it to fit, I'm good with that. There's more than one way to make something work, and it was simple. The entire job took about 15 minutes.

Its not upside down. Its the same as Eds and mine that I just installed.

Alternators dont care about upside down or rotation direction. They work both ways. The fan on the front will either force cold air into the alternator or the fan will suck cold air through the alternator depending on rotation.

I had to customer build both upper and lower brackets for mine. Ill put photos up when I can.

Seems like most people put the thicker flange (the fixed pivot flange) on the bottom, then the thinner up top for the upper adjustment point. I did the reverse of that because it required simply bending the upper mount a touch. I've got the tools to fabricate a new mount, but figured why bother when I can just put the alt on a different way and have it still line up?

I know the alternator doesn't care as long as it's lined up and spins to produce power and let the fan cool it. :)
