To-35 - Need a Tachometer

I just got around to putting my rebuilt 12V generator onto the tractor. I am still working on figuring out a problem, but it appears as though the shop swapped out my original generator with an already built unit. As such, my newly rebuilt generator now lacks a tach drive. In the event that I cannot get my original back, which looks pretty much gauranteed now, where can I source an original looking tach that runs of of the distributor or something? I know I can get a tach, but I want one that is split and looks like the original would have.

I don't know of any electric tach that resembles the original. Hard enough to find one that is even in the low enough RPM range.

How long has it been that you got the generator? I would be on their doorstep wanting some answers!!!

Well, it turns out the there were some decisions made by others that resulted in the swap of parts based on costs. So...it was legit, but unfortunate. At any rate, I'm faced with the same problem. The tractor has already been divested of its original gauges, and I have a lot of work to do. It would just be nice to have an original useful tach that indicates proper PTO speed. The generator I have seems to have a cover where the tach drive would be, but upon removing the cover, there are no gears, so I don't even know that adding gear drive to this generator is an option. I must say I am a bit shocked that someone hasn't engineered a way to get an original looking gauge to mate to a coil.

I'm actually working with Bill on ebay for an alternator with tach drive. Does anyone know what pulley/gear combo I need to make the original tach accurate...or as accurate as possible?

(quoted from post at 08:26:58 04/02/20) Hello, Thank you for the input, you are of course right...Ed

Ed, can you confirm this is the part I need?

Its for my 1957 TO-35 that has been converted to 12V.

The rebuild shop has officially lost my factory original generator, so I am forced to go a new route. Since I have to buy a new one now, I might as well get the factory gauges too.

Also, can someone help me make sure I have everything else I need?

I need a tach drive cable as well as guages, and anything else to get this alternator on.

Hook the generator armature wire to the output on the alternator then got to the old regulator remove the armature at the regulator and put it on with the battery wire and you are ready to go

I decided that Im going with a new alternator with tach drive from the site here. Can someone help me get exactly the right parts? I need gauges, tach, cable, mounting hardware.

Someone thats done this before can probably get me in the right direction. I called the parts number but they werent able to help.

Bump

I could use some assistance here. The parts site is hell to get through on the phone and the ones ordering parts don't know anything technical. I really just want to do this one time and not have to order a bunch of stuff because I missed something.

Can someone help me out?

Where can I get the top meta bracket thing for the top hole of the alternator? I have a universal mount kit but Im true form, its not actually universal and does not come with that so my alternator just kinda flops around. Need help.
