Hello guys, After 37 years of beating the regulator to get it to charge, wasting untold gallon of fuel leaving it revved up to get it to charge, I purchased an alt. with
a tack drive for the 35, from this site, was a total success and works perfect, now it has a modern trouble free charging system Yea!....Wirng in the dash was not heavy
enough , nor the amp gauge and a fire hazard...so i run a charge cable (heavy) from alt. to battery (just like yor car )...instilled a volt meter( tells you so much more
about the condition of your system)...Tack still works and is true....I'm 65 to and tired of fooling with that generator lol....Ed
 
hello, Sorry, No, Going to keep it , If i sell it to a collector he my want to put it back to original condition.....I boxed it up, the reg. and amp gauge and stored away, again.....sorry...Alt. is only a $100.00, do yourself a favor lol....Ed
 
I have an alternator,want a generator.

I service 6 and 12 volt generator equipped and know how to make them work properly.
 
Steve, Hello, and thank you, Kind words, Thank you for contributing to this site with good information...I didn't want to mix old and new technology, The tractor is like an old friend and i don't want to lose it to fire or the 100yr. old barn its stored in...the dash. ign, circuit is fused, alt. exciter runs through the ign. circut..Modern and safe......Ed
 
Hello, No I will never go back either, Pushed the snow off the driveway today in high range, just above an idle, Putting like a model A..lol...No more having to keep the
rpm higher to get it to charge...I love it....Ed
 

I'm late to the party, but it sounds to me like you're getting nice, hotter spark from the better charge at lower RPM. Nice!

I plan on doing this same alternator on my MF35 Utility. It'll allow me to greatly simplify the wiring, ditch the regulator and put in a voltmeter which I agree, is more useful.
 
Hello, I think you will be very pleased, Tractor is quiet and smooth at low rpms, Governor will give it more throttle as needed to match the load, you don't have to keep
working the throttle..very aweet to run.....Good luck.....Ed

Hi Ed,

That's great to know, I recently made a wiring error on my 35. The ammeter did not work so when I rewired it I bypassed the gauge altogether. That caused the generator to not charge, as I think it might need the shunt on the back of the ammeter to excite the genny.

I was having a bogging under load condition, but my governor works as it should. When I tested the battery running, I was below 12v, that's when I realized my mistake. Would be nice to simplify the wiring, too. I can't wait to make this upgrade now!
 
Hello and good afternoon, Pleased you found my post useful,I believe the charge from the generator actually flows through the amp gauge,amps= flow.....I stressed using a
heavy charge cable as the output post on the alt. has a diode to keep the battery from feeding back in the alt. , if it fails the battery will back feed into the alt. and
it will get very hot till it drains the battery, doing little harm, If the charge cable is to light when this happens it will glow red from the heavy load and catch
fire....I have seen that diode fail 2-3 times in my lifetime..Good luck to you......Ed
