Tractor Bucking. Governor maybe

I inherited a TO20. We had problems with the fuel so we replaced the carburetor. Now it runs great. It idles. You can move the throttle and the engine rpms will increase and decrease. But as soon as you start to drive it it starts bucking the governor will kick in and out. It wasn t having this problem before the carburetor was replaced. The governor linkage has a lot of slop its very loose. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong.

It's not likely to be the governor, you're feeling a symptom, not the cause.

Check the ignition system, especially the points gap and the distributor shaft for side play.

Try moving the wiring, ignition switch, could be a vibration related electrical problem.

Check the fuel system, flow through the carb, carb main jet adjustment.

What "fuel issues" were you having before you "fixed" it?

Do what's necessary to get the "slop" out of the governor linkage, set up the governor-to-carb linkage according to the service manual, and if that doesn't help (especially if the "new" carb is a repro), rebuild the original and put it back on.

We completed a tune up kit, new points, new plugs and plug wires. We have checked it several times but we might have missed something. We also replaced the 6v starter with a 12v.

The tractor had not been running for at least three years. We my brother and I got it to crank and even ran it around with no trouble. Several days after that we started it and we were giving it time to warm up. It just died, we were about 40feet from it at the time. We determined the fuel was bad so we drained the tank. Cleaned the bowl and put fresh fuel in the tank. We were afraid the jets on the carburetor were clogged so that s when we purchased a new carburetor. It will idle and you can race the engine no problems. It s just when we start moving it around the yard is when it bucks.
The slop in the linkages allow you to move them probably 2 inches left and right front and back(loosely) Is there away to tighten the linkages?
We have thought it might be the fuel sloshing around in the tank. We turned the fuel valve off and it ran for about 7 minutes. Then we did the same thing and tried moving the tractor and it started to buck again. Thanks for the help we will keep looking.

So. . . In order to get a car engine to run faster you put on a bigger carburetor, correct? Well, not quite. Sounds to me like you chased gas
first and don't bother with spark. So it dies in 7 minutes. Got hot spark? Overheated coil? Engine bucks. . . Carbon pile floating around
inside distributor. Yep, seen that. Too many variables on electrical without getting into fuel.
Too much fuel in a cylinder can disguise a weak spark issue. More molecules for the spark to jump across.
New carb? Chinese unit at $40?

We didn t put a different carburetor just a new one. The carburetor 181643M91 Carburetor for Massey Ferguson 181644M91 517903M91 773322M91 TE20 TO20 TO30 Replaces Marvel-Schebler TSX458 TSX361A TSX248 TSX272

It only died because we shut the value off. I just meant to say we don t believe it was a fuel issue. Because we had clean fuel and it wasn t a pickup problem. The first test was to prove it could idle. The second was the same test just moving the tractor. Just to make sure it wasn t from the fuel tank sloshing around. Either way it still has problems when we move it.

Amazon carb from the land of almost. Hope you still have the old one.
Had a thought and the brain cramped and now to see if I can find it again. . . .
Ah yes, Put the old condesor back in. Another fine import from the land of almost.
How did that work?
