I have a Ferguson to-30 and am wondering what brand and how thick of belt to buy. I am looking at the auto part store ones. It seems like the 5/8 belt is really close to fit the pulleys. I have the water pump, alternator, and the crankshaft pulley. Thoughts

Is that the GM 10-SI Alt or the Motorcraft? You say it's Nippendenso?
As for the mount, did it come from "Cheap Tractor Parts", this site, or someone fabbed it?
Then yes, I can tell you your belt should be the exact length as a piece of string wrapped around the pulleys.
5/8 width should work.

It is a 10si alt with a aftermarket pulley. The water pump pulley is factory as far as I know and the crankshaft pulley is factory. The pulley is suppose to hold a 5/8 to 3/4 belt.

Yes, the alt bracket I fabricated, everything else is from 1951. How should the belt sit in the pulleys? Flush, below or just above the pulleys? The 5/8 belt seems to sit a bit low, almost to the center of the pulleys and the 3/4 rides to high in my opinion. Maybe I m looking to close at this and need to just run one and see how it goes. I would rather learn a little and get what should be on it.

5/8 should be your belt size. Length is going to take you a trip or two and if you can find a fairly thick piece of rope to measure with, you
might get it on the first trip.

What is the down fall if it rubs the center of the pulley?

It will slip.

The belt is designed to wedge between the sides of the V. That's how it gets it's grip. If it's touching the bottom, no wedge, severely decreased power transfer, it will slip.

A good way to detect slippage, feel the pulleys after it's been run. If it's hot, it's slipping.

I believe that using the stock generator pulley with either the generator or an altenator a NAPA 28806 or a 5L390 belt will be the one you need.

Thank you, I will look into that Napa belt. I have tried quite a few belts from Oreilly s and the 5/8 is close. Going to try a 11/16 one tomorrow.
