TO 20 Voltage Regulator

Does anyone know of someone who builds a 6 volt solid state voltage regulator that will work on a
TO 20. I can't seem to keep one working for any length of time.
 
I have heard Accell makes a ss replacement for 6v Harley Davidson applications.

But be aware some are Delco, which I "think" would be the same type A circuitry as yours.

And there was a Bosch type which would probably be a type B, which will not work.

And some may have been 3 brush types, which will not work.

And I don't know about the polarity, but your tractor polarity can be changed to match the regulator "IF" it will work.

This would take some careful and extensive research to find out if it will work at all, just a thought...

FWIW, I heard back from Tony at http://www.classicregulator.com/
Although his family emergency is still ongoing, he is working on an electronic regulator that should be suitable for TO20 if converted to negative ground; and hopes to have it available "soon".

But a mechanical regulator (like the ones sold by YT) should be perfectly adequate, other than requiring some occasional maintenance. (In the form of cleaning the contacts, adjusting the gap, then adjusting the voltage.)
 
Don't know if your main concern is with originality or reliability. If originality you would obviously stay with 6 volt.

If economy and reliability are your concern, problems with generator regulators are a prime reason to consider alternator conversion
 
Thank you to all who replied. The electronic regulator that Tony is working on sounds like just what I'm looking for as my tractor has been changed to negative ground. In the meantime I will try another mechanical regulator. Thanks again everyone.
