Oil transmission done

Okay just finished with my dad tonight
draining the transmission rear end oil
out of my Ferguson to20. Pretty good
looking carmmal color and found some
pieces and chunks of rust at the
bottom of the plug whole or the big
middle plug. So wanting to flush it
is diesel but how do I do it? Do I
cap the 3 drain plugs up again and put
the entire 7 gallons of diesel in it
the drain it after letting it sit for
a while? Or do I leave all 3 drain
plugs open and just keep pouring
diesel into the top of the
transmission fill plug and keep
flushing it until I think it's clean?
Any help is appreciated! 😃

I would do a combination of your ideas. That is, cap the plugs, and put some diesel in, by the way, my manual says it holds 6 gallons. Anyway, and then let it sit for awhile. If you put enough diesel in, then I would even start it up and run the pump for a minute to get any residue out there. Once, maybe twice would be enough I think.

6 gallons gets into the axles and possibly statically leaking past the seals into the brakes. 5 is high enough for your purposes.
Once will do, twice is a bit much.
If you run it, which I have done, you will pump diesel into the hyd pump chambers and might pick up debris in the process.
That debris might cause problems with the pump.
If you have problems with the pump, it has been said dropping in a used pump generally has better results than rebuilding one.
You can also consider a static rinse, pulling the side covers and a pump up 2 gallon spray container filled with diesel can help you get into the corners.
If you go looking for a used pump, you will find it in the Fergy TO-30, Ford 9N and 2N also.

FWIW, I used a solvent gun similar to this
https://www.harborfreight.com/engine-cleaning-gun-68290.html

Used a lot less than 5 gallons of diesel, probably less than one gallon but got all the milky stuff out. Makes a lot of mist, though, you should probably wear a mask (I did).

Raise a rear wheel off the ground add 3 to 4 galions of diesel do not engauge PTO and put tractor in gear and run then drain. This will use the gears to stir the diesel and the pump will not run.
