WTB: 2x Standard 23C valve locks/keys/collets/donuts

Gentlemen, warm greetings from cold Norway.

I recently screwed up and have lost track of 2 valve locks for my '57 Ferguson 35, 23C 4-cylinder diesel engine, gold & light blue paint scheme. It was my grandfathers, but now it's mine to play with. The engine was pretty tired, and would barely start in the summer without the block heater.

I've replaced sleeves, pistons, rings, timing chain (very streched!) ground the head back flat again, done away with the thermostart and drilled the head for modern NGK 11.5V glow plugs poking into the pre-combustion chambers. Also fitted a small VGT/VNT turbo off a early VAG 1.9TDI, but have not messed with the fuel delivery just yet. 2.5" stainless exhaust going to the rear and ending right below the right trumpet. I tore the engine down about a year ago after finding bubbles in the radiator and most of the coolant shooting out the overflow. Strangely enough, the head gasket seemed to be OK from a quick looking over, so I hope I don't have a crack in the cylinder head. I've looked, but have not found anything suspicious so far.

Anyway, if anyone would like to sell me two of these "half-donuts" I'd be most grateful. Please send me a private message (PM) or email for my address and I'll pay with PayPal up front.

Thank you, I sent you an email days ago, did you receive it?

I just heard back from my dealer yesterday. The part is unfortunately no longer available.

I believe those are the exhaust valve collets. Agco p/n 826173M1
If you google that number there are some sites which show having them....not sure how accurate that may be but worth a shot.....

gtengineparts dot com/599936 shows them at $6.25 (a pair, I assume)

Thank you for your efforts. I tried to searching myself with the provided part number, and got nowhere, except at GTEngineParts. They, however, would charge a USD $12 "handling fee" and $120 shipping for these 10-gram parts fitting in a small envelope. I'll eat grass before letting myself getting taken advantage of like that.

At this point, it might be down to Mr. [b:273e827c03]hymie2lt[/b:273e827c03], or in the worst case, turning new ones myself in my lathe, provided I could find a piece of tool steel or similar to make them from.

I just checked - and those people are insane - $38 to me...and a whopping $1.15 for postage to Norway....

I sent an email asking about the ridiculous charges....

Wow, that is just incredible. I wonder how they do any business at all? It's 2020 and the world is vast, but thanks to the internet we're all connected and as informed as we make an effort to be. Comparing notes and looking for alternatives has never been easier.

I think I've come down to this: if I don't hear back from Mr. hymie2lt over the weekend, I'll make the parts myself for free, minus the cost of the electricity to run the lathe. Thank you very much for your interest and help so far, Mr. graham_in_NJ.

Found another source - $3.95 (assuming a pair, as it's described as a collet set.) plus about $10 shipping to me

Still want to make them yourself?

Hey, that sounds very reasonable. Could I ask you to get them and forward them to me? I'll pay you up front, let me know if you'd be available for this favor.

I ordered them. Should be here within a week. Hope they send the correct parts!

My email is [email protected]. You can contact me through that, so we don't clog up the board.

Much better than those morons at GTengineparts!

SOLVED!

Many thanks to helpful gentleman #1, [b:a823d97558]graham_in_NJ[/b:a823d97558]! I'm very grateful for the assistance. I'll try to follow up in a new thread with the progress of putting this old iron horse back together again.
